New York Arts Program

Bridging the Gap Between Internship and Career…

NYAP currently offer two programs that extend our mission to recent college graduates, and program alumni who are seeking professional development opportunities:

Post-Baccalaureate Program

This opportunity is designed for those who have not attended NYAP previously . As with the undergraduate program post-bac students are placed in one or more supervised internships in their field of interest and attend faculty and guest seminars, however the independent study requirement is focused on professional development activity, such as career research or portfolio development. The program is customized to address specific needs, and engages NYAP’s network of professional partners to provide guidance. Post-baccalaureate students may also reside at the NYAP residence depending on availability.   Individuals may apply within two years of their college graduation. There are credit and non-credit options.

APPLICATION: Post-baccalaureate applicants use the standard application form  and submit the required support material (see website) , but do not need approval from their college. Note that at least one of the recommenders must be faculty or staff from the undergraduate college or university.

“As a student at a liberal arts college it is difficult to know what an art focused life looks like. I found that through my NYAP experience I had the opportunity to have a full immersion experience. My internship in a studio of an artist deeply engaged in contemporary conversations around art opened the door to focused discourse about thinking and making art. I also got to meet many other artists in the community and was given an inside look at the range of work being made in New York. This experience led me to taking on interns of my own now that I am a practicing artist. I am so happy to continue to be a part of this program.” – Corin Hewitt, Alumnus
